Everdream Announces Desktop Management Support for Windows Vista

Company Unveils Security and Compliance Functionality to Support Latest Microsoft OS; New Professional Services Offering Helps Companies Assess Vista Readiness

Fremont, Calif. — May 7, 2007 — Everdream, the market leader in on-demand desktop management software services, today announced version 7.3 of its Everdream Control Center, highlighted by support for Microsofts recently released Windows Vista operating system.

With the announcement, Everdream becomes the first on-demand desktop management provider to announce support for key security and compliance functions for the Windows Vista operating system, allowing customers to easily discover and manage Vista-based computing assets, as well as deploy software and manage antivirus clients such as Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition.

Customers that have deployed Windows Vista can now leverage Everdream’s on-demand desktop management software services to ensure that desktops are in compliance, safe and secure, and up and running.  Enabled via the lightweight and silent Everdream Client Manager agent on each desktop and laptop regardless of their location, Everdream’s on-demand software services offer customers the flexibility to purchase and deploy those services ala carte that meet their specific desktop management challenges and add additional modules as their needs evolve. Available services include:

  • Asset Discovery—Discover machines with Vista operating systems installed and accurately catalog the specific edition of Windows Vista. Supported Vista editions include Vista Business, Vista Enterprise, and Vista Ultimate.
  • Asset Management—Catalog and track the standard inventory elements on a Vista operating system including hardware, software, and license usage.
  • Software Distribution—Distribute software packages and other Everdream generated packages to a Vista operating system
  • Antivirus Management—Manage the Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition v10.2 on Vista operating systems by performing live updates and full system scans as well as reporting on the status of virus definitions and threats

Additional support for Windows Vista in the areas of antivirus, spyware, and firewall management, remote access, remote support and online data backup will be made available throughout 2007.

In related news, Everdream today also released a new Windows Vista readiness assessment designed to help companies evaluate their ability to adequately deploy Windows Vista.  This professional services offering takes a comprehensive inventory of all hardware and software assets across a company’s network to determine if they meet Microsoft’s requirements for its latest Windows OS and provides a summary and set of recommendations to ensure a successful upgrade process.

Vista Readiness A Top Industry Concern

In a recent survey of more than 140,000 computers across its customer base, Everdream determined that 79.9% of machines do not match at least one of Microsoft’s recommended baseline requirements for the Vista upgrade, including:

  • 1 GB RAM
  • 1 GHz microprocessor
  • 40 GB hard drive
  • 15 GB free hard drive space

As many companies are falling short of meeting all of the requirements for successful Vista deployment, Everdream’s Vista readiness assessment allows customers to:

  • Catalog their entire network inventory;
  • Determine each asset’s RAM, hard drive capacity and processor speed; and
  • Develop a comprehensive report on which assets are Vista-ready and the steps required to bring them in compliance with Microsoft’s recommended baseline.

“At the highest level, we are enabling companies to evaluate, budget and better plan for successful migration and adoption of Vista. With our Vista support, we can make sure the new OS is running smoothly and in full compliance with prevailing security and other policies,” said Mark Hoffman, CEO of Everdream. “As a crucial first step, our Vista readiness reports will help companies set a pragmatic Vista rollout course and address core migration issues that could bring a Vista deployment to a halt. Our goal is to better equip companies for the switch while minimizing the pain of a major OS upgrade.”
