Senior Oracle DBA

We are offering a unique opportunity to a highly motivated, competent Senior Oracle DBA to join us as a principal contributor within our IT Operations group. You will own the implementation, support and evolution of our SaaS environments, designing and building a highly scalable, unprecedented, globally deployed next generation asset management SaaS application and platform.

This position is based in Fremont, California.

Job responsibilities:

The Senior Oracle DBA (DBA) role is to implement, deploy and support a new Oracle based SaaS application from development platforms to the production target systems. Duties include performing database installation, maintenance, tuning, technical support, supporting on-going application development, installation and upgrades of Oracle in all areas of Dell's development, QA and production environments.The Senior Oracle DBA will work closely with Engineering, QA and IT personnel and will be an integral member of the product development and support infrastructure.

  • Provide day-to-day support and maintenance for Oracle databases and services of our SaaS application platform
  • Investigate potential problems and issues raised by users
  • Implement monitoring for database events and proactively optimize system performance
  • Work with the IT and Engineering teams to automate reactive procedures where possible, and to promote rapid response to known issues
  • Cross functional, contributing member of our Change Control Board (CCB) and Production Change Teams (PCT) to deploy changes to production and other environments
  • Accountable for maintaining database configurations in compliance with established best practices
  • Oversee data fixes for business issues or to address application issues
  • Accountable for proper backup and disaster recovery procedures
  • Work in conjunction with IT, Engineering, and business groups to understand functionality, scalability, performance, security, and integration requirements from the database perspective
  • Develop and maintain an in depth understanding of the database architecture and the general application functionality used to maintain data integrity

Job requirements:

  • 5 - 7 years experience as an Oracle Database Administrator
  • 5 - 7 years experience in IT Operations Support
  • Experience with UNIX, Linux and Windows 2003
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, able to clearly articulate complex technical issues and relate to development requirements and needs.
  • Demonstrable experience with PL/SQL including writing and optimizing code in PL/SQL using various tools such as TOAD, SQL Navigator, Embarcadero and SQL Developer
  • Tuning and troubleshooting Oracle instances
  • Performs performance analysis and enhancement of SQL queries
  • Installing Oracle on Windows/Linux/UNIX based systems
  • Experience configuring and maintaining highly scalable, high transaction environments
  • Strong knowledge of Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC) is required along with experience in physical and logical standby, Transparent Application Failover (TAF) and other Oracle high availability technologies
  • Knowledge in Oracle Backup/Recovery Methodologies and Strategies
  • Independent position requires excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to communicate with upper level management
  • Ability to multi-task and handle periods of high stress
  • Highly motivated, job engaged, Team player

Desired skills and experience:

  • Knowledge of Oracle 10g and version 11 platforms
  • Schema design and experience working directly with software engineering Teams
  • Hands-on experience working in .NET or J2EE environments
  • Hands-ons experience with Linux and Windows
  • Intricate knowledge of web application security concerns specifically Confidentiality, Integrity and Availability
  • Hosted, highly available, multi-tenanancy applications

Education:

  • Computer Science, Engineering degree or equivalent experience required

Linux Systems Engineer

This position is based in Fremont, California.

Job responsibilities:

The Linux Systems Engineer develops and maintains Dell's development, QA and Production level Linux based systems and is responsible for maintaining the integrity and security of servers and systems while conducting system analysis and development, with limited support and direction. The Linux Systems Engineer must possess a strong background in the UNIX OS, preferably with Linux/UNIX server administration.

Job requirements:

  • 5 - 7 years experience in Linux Administration
  • 5 - 7 years experience in IT Operations Support
  • Experience with UNIX, Linux and Windows 2003
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, able to clearly articulate complex technical issues and relate to development requirements and needs
  • Manages multiple Linux servers and workstations
  • Manages multiple linked databases to include security, data safety and integrity, disaster recovery, and development and implementation of bulk data import/export procedures
  • Documents the design of the operating environment
  • Designs and programs specific applications in response to Dell's need; installs and debugs new and/or upgraded software on server and client platforms
  • Ability to work productively in teams; good problem solver
  • Oracle installation and maintenance experience as well as Oracle DBA knowledge
